"Kes, if you are moving backward in time, then please, don't let Kathryn die. Consider that an order. Consider that a plea from a friend. Consider that however you must. Just please, Kes, don't make me live without her. It hurts, so much. Please, I beg you, don't let it happen again."
"But Captain - " Kes watched the pain that flashed across his face at her use of that rank. She realized that it was rare that the word didn't bring pain into his eyes. Her reference to the temporal prime directive died on her lips. "I'll try, Chakotay."
