I consider myself very fortunate to have been able to visit 1977 Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew at Three Chimney's Farm in Midway, Kentucky. He looked great, and was still going out and galloping a mile every morning. He could not be called the world's most friendly horse, though. In fact, when we walked up to his stall he charged the gate. The groom said that since we were there at the end of the big September yearling sale when half the racing world descends on the Lexington area, Slew had been taken out of his stall to be shown to people about a hundred times a day and he was kind of "peopled out." Can't say as I blame him. There was a lot of activity going on that day and Slew was pretty interested in what was happening outside his window so I got some nice pictures of him, nearly silhouetted, to work from.
